Musicians

Michael Clifford is an Australian musician, best known for his role as the lead guitarist in the pop-rock band 5 Seconds of Summer (5SOS).

Since 5 Seconds of Summer’s inception in 2011, Clifford’s guitar prowess has become a defining factor of the band’s sound. The band’s debut single, “She Looks So Perfect,” quickly gained international attention, and their self-titled debut album hit number one in 11 countries. In subsequent years, the band released a series of successful albums including “Sounds Good Feels Good” and “Youngblood.”

Collaborations with other musicians have been a notable part of Clifford’s career. Some examples include working with John Feldmann, producer and lead vocalist of Goldfinger, who helped shape 5SOS’s sound. Collaborations with songwriters and musicians like Ashton Irwin, Luke Hemmings, Calum Hood, Julia Michaels, Justin Tranter, and Ali Tamposi, have played a vital role in the band’s development. He also worked with Steve Mac, who contributed to the band’s hit “Youngblood,” and Ryan Tedder, who co-wrote “Wildflower” from the “Calm” album.

Clifford’s role in 5SOS has garnered recognition and praise. Their album “Youngblood” won the ARIA Award for Song of the Year in 2018, while the band itself won the American Music Award for New Artist of the Year in 2014.
