Joe Alwyn, an English actor, began his career in the limelight with his role in the 2016 war drama Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk, directed by Ang Lee. This film, based on Ben Fountain’s novel, marked Alwyn’s debut and showcased his remarkable ability to convey complex emotions, earning him critical acclaim and marking it as his breakout role.

His career trajectory continued upward with significant roles in several notable films. In 2018, Alwyn appeared in The Favourite, a period black comedy that received 10 nominations at the 91st Academy Awards, demonstrating his versatility with a performance that balanced physical humor with his striking looks. His talent also shone through in Operation Finale, Boy Erased, and Mary Queen of Scots, the latter earning him the Trophée Chopard at the 2018 Cannes Film Festival alongside actress Elizabeth Debicki. Alwyn’s portrayal of a slave owner in Harriet (2019) and his roles in A Christmas Carol, The Souvenir Part II, and The Last Letter from Your Lover further solidified his status as a compelling actor.

Alwyn also starred in Conversations with Friends, a Hulu adaptation of Sally Rooney’s novel, though his performance received mixed reviews. His work in Stars at Noon and Catherine Called Birdy was met with positive acclaim, with Stars at Noon winning the Grand Prix at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival.

Beyond acting, Alwyn has ventured into music, collaborating with Taylor Swift on several songs from her albums Folklore and Evermore, under the pseudonym William Bowery. His contributions to Folklore earned him a Grammy win when the album won Album of the Year at the 63rd Annual Grammy Awards.

He is also known for his 6-year relationship with Taylor Swift, which ended in April 2023.
