Jessie Mei Li is a British actress and singer. Born to Chinese and British parents, she made her debut in 2018 in the film “Together, They Smoke.” Jessie later found her breakout role as Alina Starkov in the Netflix original series, Shadow and Bone. The series, which premiered in April 2021, is based on the bestselling novel by Leigh Bardugo. Jessie’s portrayal of Alina has been praised for her emotional depth, wit, and strength. Her performance has also been recognized by critics, earning her nominations for Best Actress in a Fantasy/Sci-Fi Series at the Critics Choice Super Awards and Best Lead Actress in a Drama Series at the 2021 MTV Movie & TV Awards. The series also stars Archie Renaux, Freddy Carter and Ben Barnes. Jessie also played the role of Princess Ying Chun in the critically acclaimed miniseries, The Last Empress.
