In January 2000, Bill Gates stepped down as the CEO and remained chairman of the board of directors for the company. He later transitioned to a part-time role at Microsoft and full-time work at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation in 2008. Since 1987, he has been on the Forbes list of the world’s wealthiest people and held the first position between 2010 and 2013. Bill Gates is also known for his rivalry with Apple founder Steve Jobs.
