Betty Buckley
Betty Buckley is an American actress and singer, notable for her role as Grizabella in the original Broadway production of “Cats,” for which she received a Tony Award. Her career also encompasses roles in film and television, including significant parts in “Carrie” (1976), “Tender Mercies” (1983), “Frantic” (1988), and the television series “Eight Is Enough” (1977-1981).
In film, Buckley made her debut in “Carrie” and later appeared in “Frantic” alongside Harrison Ford. She portrayed Dixie in “Tender Mercies.” Her voice acting is featured in “Cats Don’t Dance” (1997), where she provided the voice for L.B. Mammoth. On television, she is best known for her role as Abby Bradford in “Eight Is Enough.”
Throughout her career, Buckley has collaborated with several key figures in the entertainment industry. She appeared in the Kennedy Center production of “Follies” (2011), directed by Eric Schaeffer, showcasing Stephen Sondheim’s compositions. In “Cats,” she worked under director Trevor Nunn and choreographer Gillian Lynne. Her portrayal of Norma Desmond in “Sunset Boulevard” involved collaboration with director Andrew Lloyd Webber. She worked with director Woody Allen in “Another Woman” (1988) and with director M. Night Shyamalan in “Split” (2016).
