Aubrey Drake Graham, better known as Drake, is a Canadian rapper and actor. Drake’s journey into the limelight began with his acting career, notably his portrayal of Jimmy Brooks, a wheelchair-bound former basketball player, in the Canadian teen drama series Degrassi: The Next Generation. His acting career also included roles in television series like ‘Soul Food’, ‘Being Erica’, and ‘Sophie’, along with voice acting in the film Ice Age: Continental Drift.
Drake embarked on his musical career with the release of his debut mixtape, Room for Improvement, in 2006. This was followed by Comeback Season in 2007, which featured the single “Replacement Girl,” earning Drake significant recognition. His big break came with the 2009 mixtape So Far Gone, which included hits like “Best I Ever Had” and “Successful”.
Drake’s first studio album, Thank Me Later, released in 2010, was a critical and commercial success, debuting at No. 1 on the US Billboard 200 chart. His subsequent albums, such as Take Care (2011), Nothing Was the Same (2013), Views (2016), Scorpion (2018), Certified Lover Boy (2021), and For All the Dogs (2023), have consistently topped charts, with Views particularly notable for its 13-week stint atop the Billboard 200. His exploration of genres like dancehall in Views and his hits like “Hotline Bling” and “One Dance” have been influential in popularizing these sounds in contemporary pop music.
Drake’s career is also notable for his extensive collaborations with other artists. He has worked with a diverse range of musicians, including Lil Wayne, Rihanna, Trey Songz, Nicki Minaj, Kanye West, Future, and Jay Z, among others. His accolades include four Grammy Awards from numerous nominations, with his album Take Care being named ‘Best Rap Album’ in 2013. Beyond the Grammys, Drake has received various awards and distinctions, reflecting his substantial impact on music and culture.
