Governor Tim Walz have two pets: A rescue dog named Scout and a rescue cat named Honey.

Tim Walz has a rescued black Labrador mix named Scout. Scout was part of ten dogs found in a box left at an Oklahoma kill shelter, before being taken in by Midwest Animal Rescue and adopted by Walz and his family. When Walz announced his campaign in March 2017, he promised his son Gus that his family could adopt a dog if he won. Guy famously exclaimed, “I get a dog!” when he heard his dad one. The family ended up adopting Scout over Labor Day weekend in 2018.

Afton (Cat)

Tim Walz and his family had a previous rescue cat named Afton who went missing in August 2023. When they lived at their previous home, Afton was known for going on adventures, including crashing nearby weddings. This led to Afton wearing an AirTag, but he managed to remove it when he disappeared.

Tim Walz is an American politician currently serving as the 41st governor of Minnesota. A Democrat, Walz has a diverse background as a former U.S. Army non-commissioned officer, educator, and legislator. Before his tenure as governor, he represented Minnesota’s 1st congressional district in the U.S. House of Representatives from 2007 to 2019. Walz’s political journey began in rural Nebraska, where he was born and raised before moving to Minnesota, where he built his career and life.

After earning a Bachelor of Science in social science education from Chadron State College, he taught in various settings, including on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation and in China through WorldTeach.
