The Western world has seen recreational marijuana slowly march towards legalization. Cannabis has more and more become a part of peoples medical repertoire. Since pet owners always want the best for their furbaby, it’s no surprise they’ve started medicating Fluffy with cannabis products, too.
Now, online pet-retailers are starting to bark into the new marijuana market.
People have begun using CBD (or cannabidiol) oils and tinctures to alleviate their own pain and anxiety. Since we generally let our pets do what we do (dresses for chickens, anyone?) some pet owners have become to medicate their pooch with CBD oil.
Whether it works or not depends on what study you read. Dogs Naturally Magazine states, “First of all, because of the low THC, CBD hemp won’t make your dog high” which is often the first concern of pet owners. No one wants their pooch uncomfortable and paranoid without a clue why.
“The most common side effect of CBD is that your dog may get a little drowsy – about the same as if you gave him a Benadryl.” They go on to say if your dog has elevated adverse reactions, like vomiting, to stop immediately.
Like most things that involve the budding cannabis industry, studies are lacking. Anecdotal evidence, however, seems to prove time and time again that CBD can relieve pain, anxiety, and arthritis in your pooch.
